Crew Leader Training for Trails

April 6, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Accept the Challenge!  Become a trained and qualified Trail Crew Leader!  Help build our regional Leadership Capacity

Each year, hundreds of Volunteers donate their time to help maintain and construct our regional soft-surface trails in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming.  The more trained Trail Crew Leaders we have, the more we can accomplish!

Because we partner on trail projects together, the Colorado Addicted Trailbuilders Society (CATS), Wildlands Restoration Volunteers (WRV), and the Overland Mountain Bike Association (OMBA) have combined training resources – the NOCO and SOWY Trailbuilders Coalition – to present a regional Crew Leader Training for Trails.

This program equips experienced trail workers with the volunteer management skills to assist public land agencies and your home organizations in leading critical trail improvement projects. The program begins with an intensive weekend-long course where participants will practice how to lead safe, successful trail projects, motivate crews, and develop efficient basic trail construction skills.  Please Note: This is NOT a technical trails building workshop. The focus is on leadership skills. Weather and time permitting, we will however include a very basic intro to trail construction and/or maintenance. Training materials, tools and all necessary PPE are provided.
Bring notebook and clothing suitable for trail work and weather conditions. Lunch to be provided each day.

After the training weekend, participants will be encouraged to sign up and co-lead 2 volunteer workdays under the supervision of experienced Crew Leaders from CATS, WRV, and OMBA, or their home organizations.

Prerequisites:  Previous participation at two or more volunteer trail days; passion to continue learning how to build exceptional multi-user trails; desire to safely, effectively, and efficiently lead a dedicated group of Trail Volunteers!

Although free to course registrants, a $20 donation is suggested to help defray costs.  Donations will be collected at the door – cash, or check made out to Overland Mountain Bike Association.
