Mountain bike demos, kid’s activities, and an interpretive “Ride with Your Ranger” park tour

BELLVUE, Colo. – On Saturday, September 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, Overland Mountain Bike Club will help celebrate the second annual Bike Your Park Day as well as National Public Lands Day.  OMBC supports the Friends of Lory State Park and Lory State Park as they partner with several Northern Colorado area bicycle organizations and businesses to bring you this fun day on the park’s trails.  The event is an open invitation to the public to experience the park, learn about its programs, and explore the ways to enjoy our public lands on two wheels.   Activities are free of charge with a valid state park pass, and will center in the parking area between the Soldier Canyon Group Picnic Area and the Lory Bike Skills Park.

The public is encouraged to bring friends, family and your mountain bikes to Lory State Park and enjoy the following activities:

  • An expo-style bike event will offer visitors loads of information on the latest cycling trends, presentations, and demo bikes available for testing on Lory’s trails for riders of all ages, abilities and skill levels. Representatives from Overland Mountain Bike Club, Peloton Cycles of Fort Collins, and Niner Bikes will be on hand throughout the day, as well as experienced riders and Park staff to answer questions about cycling and about exploring Lory’s 21 miles of biking trails.
  • “Ride with Your Ranger”: Register for one of two scheduled ranger-led interpretive bike rides through the Park, featuring stops at 3 different interpretive stations highlighting the natural and cultural history of Lory State Park as well as its spectacular and varied wildlife. The rides are rated easy to moderate and open to all ages, but limited to 20 participants per ride. Participants must bring their own bike. To sign up please call the Park’s Visitor Center at 970-493-1623.
  • Lory Bike Skills Park Project: The Friends of Lory State Park will be on hand to show and discuss plans for a fully-remodeled Lory Bike Skills Park, a project to revitalize this regional mountain bike skills training park for youth and adults at Lory. The rebuilt facility will replace the aging and outdated 70,000 square foot bike skills park that currently exists. It will also serve as a trailhead hub for access to nearby trail systems in Lory and Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, and a venue for annual youth, family and adult cycling programs, and special events.

Activity updates scheduled for Bike Your Park Day will be available on Lory State Park’s Facebook Page and the Friends of Lory State Park Facebook page.
