Outreach Coordinator

Job Title: Outreach Coordinator

OMBA’s vision is world-class mountain bike experiences throughout the northern Front Range Region. The Outreach Coordinator will work in pursuit of this vision by working to ensure a strong membership base, to provide effective communication to internal and external audiences, and to help execute high-quality events. 

PRIMARY POSITION DUTIES AND GOALS

The Outreach Coordinator must be self-directed and self-motivated to perform the following ongoing tasks of our membership, communications, and outreach programs in coordination with OMBA’s Executive Director & Board of Directors: 

Membership Program

Our members provide the platform from which we pursue our mission and are the primary source of funding for this position. We seek to grow our membership base year-over-year.

  • Attract and retain members to grow our member base.

  • Work with the Executive Director to establish a robust offering of member benefits.

  • Communicate regularly with the members to ensure we are representing their interests.

  • Plan and conduct membership drives in coordination with IMBA and/or independently.

  • Manage membership database and CRM system.

Communications Program

OMBA relies on a robust communications program to inform our audience of our work, attract members, and recruit volunteers.

  • Maintain and seek continuous improvement of OMBA’s websites.

  • Ensure we have an informative, effective and regular monthly or bi-monthly newsletter.

  • Develop and implement an effective social media and overall communications plan appropriate to the OMBA brand and our widely varied audience.

  • Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers in the Communications Program. 

Community Outreach & Events Program

Effective outreach to our community is critical to provide accurate and updated information regarding the area trails, current and future trail projects, lead social activities, and support partner events as needed.

  • Foster working relationships, projects and events with our community partner organizations.

  • Lead and/or assist with various events such as OMBA’s annual Season Kickoff Party, monthly social events, Northern CO MTB Festival, annual Curt Gowdy Campout, Year-End Appreciation Party and other events as needed. 

Other Duties

  • Attend OMBA Board of Directors meetings as needed.

  • Provide a monthly report of membership numbers and dollars.

  • Assist with fundraising activities at various levels such as events, sponsorships, raffles/giveaways, and others as needed

  • Additional duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient, regular user of social media applications, to include but not limited to Facebook and Instagram.

  • Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and a self-directed entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Passion for and interest in mountain biking, outdoor recreation, and conservation.

  • Competent in a variety of office-based software systems (e.g., Google Drive, Docs, Sheets).

  • Creative content design and development experience. Primarily through photos and video.

  • Graphic design experience and talent.

  • Experience with CRM and/or membership database systems.

  • Ability to work outdoors for long periods.

  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license. 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Creative writing, storytelling and authoring.

  • Event planning experience, especially for groups up to 500 people.

  • Experience with leading volunteers and volunteer events.

  • Experience in creating a monthly newsletter.

  • Experience in web-authoring, design, and editing.

  • Intermediate MTB riding skills including the ability to ride technical or jump trails. 

COMPENSATION, TERMS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Base salary commensurate with experience and non-profit industry standards. Board approved pay rate of $22-26/hr. A full-time 40 hours/wk commitment is preferred.

  • Some travel beyond day-to-day commuting to work sites may be required (reimbursable).

  • Home based position within Larimer County, Colorado region.

  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.

Trail Operations Manager

Job Title: Trail Operations Manager

OMBA’s vision is world-class mountain bike experiences throughout the Northern Front Range Region of CO & WY. The Trail Operations Manager is critical in pursuit of this vision by working to build, maintain and advocate for high-quality trails that enhance the mountain biking experience throughout the region, maintaining positive and productive relationships with regional land managers, recruiting and developing trail volunteers, and overseeing our trail-focused operations. This region has a large robust existing trail system with over 400 miles open to mountain bikes. OMBA expects to be associated with a significant number of trail projects over the next 5-10 years, ranging from advocacy to upgrading existing trails to planning and building new trails. This is a unique opportunity to help transform an already outstanding place to ride a mountain bike. 

PRIMARY POSITION DUTIES AND GOALS

The Trail Operations Manager must be self-directed and self-motivated to perform the following ongoing tasks of our Trails Program in coordination with OMBA’s Executive Director: 

Trail Advocacy & Planning

Effective advocacy and planning is critical to balancing our workload across all available resources.  

  • Establish & maintain effective relationships with key individuals within our partner land managing organizations.

  • Develop & pursue new trail projects including building & maintenance.

  • Assist with the planning & design of trail layouts including new trails & reroutes for existing trails within guidance of land agency partners.

  • Work with land agency partners to improve trail experiences and sustainability of existing trails.

  • Foster working relationships and projects with our partner organizations such as outdoor recreation advocates, youth corps organizations, event promoters and local businesses.

  • Assist with the development and continuation of an OMBA Vision Plan for Trails.

Volunteer Recruitment & Training

Volunteers are critical to our trail-building and maintenance success.

  • Recruit trail building volunteers.

  • Develop a system for training, nurturing and retaining key volunteers to take on leadership roles, with the goal of building our volunteer crew leaders to maintain high value to local land agencies.

  • Manage & develop a specialized volunteer crew to ensure we have the needed strength to tackle the most challenging trail projects.

Trail Building Events

This allows us to reach our goal of providing world-class mountain biking experiences and fosters engagement among our members, partners and the trails community.

  • Recruit & develop OMBA’s Trails Committee Team:

    • Conduct monthly Trails Committee meetings to organize our efforts and share best practices.

    • Develop & direct land agency liaisons and/or team leads for each focus area.

  • Schedule & manage support staffing for volunteer trail building events throughout the year.

Manage OMBA’s Trail Stewardship Crew

  • Conduct interviews, hiring & onboarding of crew members

  • Manage crew work throughout the season

  • Formulate scope of work documents for each project

  • Ensure crew remains on schedule & productive throughout their season

Manage Contracted Trail Professionals

  • Assist with the development of RFP’s & RFQ’s

  • Assist with the selection process of qualified trail contractors

  • Manage and supervise trail development contracts and contracted trail professionals in a professional manner

Other Duties

  • Assist in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities for trail development projects

  • Assist with project funding efforts, including but not limited to project budgeting, grant writing, presentations and other tasks as needed

  • Attend Monthly OMBA Board of Directors meetings as needed

  • Create an annual Trail Stewardship Plan to guide activities for the year

  • Create an annual Trail Stewardship Summary to highlight work completed for the year

  • Develop & maintain an OMBA Trail Project tracking document

  • Ensure the necessary and proper management, storage & maintenance of OMBA’s tools, equipment & tool trailer, including security measures.

  • Provide budgetary information for the tools inventory annually.

  • Purchase new tools & equipment as required & approved.

  • Work with the Executive Director on annual budgeting and financial tracking

  • Additional duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and a self-directed entrepreneurial spirit. Mechanically inclined; organized.

  • Passion for and interest in mountain biking, outdoor recreation, and conservation.

  • Trail building experience with a public lands manager.

  • Experience with planning & leading volunteer trail building events.

  • Experience training trail volunteers & volunteer trail crew leaders.

  • Skilled in effective trail project management techniques.

  • Ability to work outdoors for long periods performing manual labor & operating equipment.

  • Familiar with machine & tool preventive maintenance techniques.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license. 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced trail building skills, specifically mountain bike optimized trails and features.

  • Exhibit a range from competent to proficient operation of mini-excavators, mini-skid loaders, and various mechanical and manual trail building tools and techniques.

  • Intermediate or above MTB riding skills including the ability to ride technical or jump trails.

  • Possess a vehicle capable of towing a 3500 lbs rated trailer (5×10’ enclosed). 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, crouch, climb, squat.

  • Frequently required to walk on uneven or unstable surfaces.

  • Frequently required to hike 1-4 miles a day.

  • Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity

  • Occasionally required to hike 8-12 miles per day.

  • Occasionally required to mountain-bike 25+ miles per day.

  • Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.

  • Continually required to talk or hear.

  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

  • Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.

  • Occasionally work in high, precarious places.

  • Frequently required to lift and carry 25 lbs.

  • Occasionally required to lift 50 lbs repeatedly.

  • Occasionally required to lift 100 lbs (dual lift required).

  • Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals.

  • Continually exposed to outside weather conditions.

  • Frequent exposure to extreme heat or cold.

  • Some work occurs outdoors in remote locations and high elevations.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and can be very loud during construction projects.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

  • Occasionally required to differentiate between orange, pink, and red marking flags.

  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: GPS units, Clinometer, Mountain Bike

COMPENSATION, TERMS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Base salary commensurate with experience and non-profit industry standards, with a likely pay range of $58,000-65,000 annually.  This is a full-time salaried position.

  • Benefits available: Health Insurance Reimbursement Plan; 401 (k) retirement plan; generous PTO plan

  • Some travel beyond day-to-day commuting to work sites may be required.

  • Home based position within Larimer County, Colorado region.
