Support the high school MTB racing teams in Cheyenne and Laramie. Race or Volunteer at this great endurance MTB race, presented by Wyoming State Parks and Overland Mountain Bike Club.
On Saturday, September 16th, 2017, Overland, Wyoming State Parks and our sponsors will hold this fundraiser race for the Cheyenne and Laramie high school MTB racing league teams. This is an event that everyone looks forward to, due to the unique format and the relaxed feel of the race. It’s an eight hour race around a 15.1 mile loop of the IMBA Epic trail system at Curt Gowdy that can be raced as an individual or as a team, with up to three members. Racers start at 9:30 am and compete for eight hours on an 15.1 mile loop, in teams or as individuals. Racers final laps must be completed by 5:30 PM to count. This is a race for the kids as well. All of the high school MTB racing teams in the region, as well as unaffiliated junior racers, are invited to participate in the Special Junior Race (see details below).
The Special Junior Race starts immediately following the start of the main race. Race distances vary depending on ability: 3.5+ miles (Beginners), 7+ miles (Intermediates), and 15.1 miles (advanced) and take place on sections of the main race course. The start/finish will be located at the Aspen Grove Trailhead parking area, unless conditions require that we relocate the timer’s station to a different location.
Race categories will be:
|Solo (entry fee is $50.00):
Male under 35
Female under 35
Female 35+Team (entry fee is $40.00/Racer):*
Male 2/3 person
Female 2/3 person
Coed 2/3 person
Junior 3 Person (13-18 years of age, entry fee is $10.00/Racer)
|Special Junior Race (entry fee is $10.00/Racer):**
Races are for students between 13 and 18 years of age. Categories will be delineated by gender (male or female) and by ability (beginner, intermediate, and advanced). Age classes may also be delineated depending on the number of riders registered by category. Possible age classes per gender and ability level will be 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18.
*If registering as the first member of a team, select “Create a team” on the registration page. You will be asked to enter the team name and you will become the Team Captain. Once setup, the Team Captain can set a team page password and invite team members to register through their team page. Teammates with passwords can also register directly by selecting “Join a team” and searching for their team name.
**If you are a member of a NICA High School MTB League team, please have your coach contact a race organizer at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn how to register your high school/NICA team members as a group. Please do not register your NICA team under the Junior 3 Person team category, as this race will not be affiliated with NICA teams. You may race in either the “Special Junior Race” or as a Junior team rider, but not both.
If you would like to camp at Curt Gowdy State Park Friday or Saturday night, sites will be available on a first come, first served basis, as the park reservation system ends on September 15th. Campers will be subject to regular Curt Gowdy site fees. If no sites are available in the park or you just prefer to camp outside of the park, there will be overflow camping available for no charge at Camp Jack, just west of the Curt Gowdy entrance, on the north side of Happy Jack Road (the gate appears to be chained, but can be opened via the carabiner on the chain).
Proceeds to benefit the Laramie and Cheyenne HS MTB Teams.
If you would like to simply make a donation to these groups, select “Participate as an Individual” and type in the amount you would like to donate.
Our sponsors include Wyoming Pathways, the Laramie Enduro and Honey Stinger. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Please contact email@example.com for additional information on how to become a sponsor or this great event.
We need the community’s help to make this race a success. We will post volunteer signup links as soon as they are available.
We will need help with Friday course marking – Saturday Race day – Sunday course cleanup and event breakdown.
